Rock Climbing Gym in Dallas Texas

Our Experience With Our First Visit Ever To A Rock Climbing Gym in Dallas Texas.

Have you ever wanted to visit a rock climbing gym?

Has this ever intrigued you?

If you answered yes to either of these but haven’t done it yet, then GO!  And if you answered no, then you need to go anyway, because well…

oh my gosh, this was SO MUCH FLIPPIN FUN.  I am CRUSHING on this hobby.

I’m not going to lie, I was a little intimidated at first, because well ya know, climbing really high and trusting that I wouldn’t fall to my death..but seriously, it was fine.

Then there was learning to belay…my brain took awhile to organize the process, but I’m easily confused.

Anyway, we learned the VERY basics of bouldering, belaying and auto- belaying.

This is something that I’ve always wanted to do, but never pursued for various reasons, but mainly just because it was never convenient and I never made it a priority…until I had one week absolutely free of any commitments…

Every day was planned on a whim…so on Monday we went to Six Flags, Tuesday we went to Hurricane Harbor and I decided that Wednesday was “Learn to Rock Climb (well in a gym anyway) Day”. …(Thursday I reached out to a scuba diver instructor, but I can’t afford that one right now).

I did a quick google search and found Summit Climbing in Dallas Texas.  I called in and got some answers to my main questions which were:

  1. Can I just come in and climb even though it’s my first time?  Yes, no problem.
  2. Do I need to bring anything?  No, the gear comes with “the works” price of $20.
  3. Can kids climb too?  Absolutely, and they pick it up FAST.  I’m not sure of their policy on kids Belaying, but they can do the “auto belay” option with no problem.

They also offer classes like Climbing 101, which I planned to attend but honestly, if it’s your first time there will be an instructor that tells you everything that you need to know to get started.

What else would be good to know…

  • Wear or bring socks!  (you are renting shoes).
  • There are lots of other classes offered that come with the day pass or membership.
  • There are specials and events…we went on a Wednesday after 4 pm and it was 1/2 price.

Staff is extremely kind, helpful and encouraging…I mean, so nice.  They also constantly walk around the gym to make sure that all the rules are being followed and that all is well.

Different color rocks mean “level of difficulty”. They’ll explain all of that.

I can’t think of much else…

It was awesome, it was worth it, it’s addictive.  I already can’t wait to go back and try to challenge myself (I’m going tomorrow actually).

I loved it, my kids loved it, and at 8, 11 and 16 they have many different interests and can be very hard to please these days! Oh and they are afraid of heights (so they think).

So, next I want to take it outside…so I’m hoping to learn the outdoor version as soon as possible.
