It all started with a fb post …
“Who’s up for ladies night indoor rock climbing then dinner in Dallas?“
I got so many responses! I knew that I NEEDED to get out and have some fun, so I put it on the calendar, offered up my van, got my rsvps and made it happen.
So many times it’s that last part of the sentence that stops us. Wanting to do something and then actually doing it, are two totally different things. I get it, I mean WE ALL get it. Life is busy. We are busy. There are SO many things that are clawing for our attention right??? Our jobs, our homes, our families, our commitments. And some things just cannot be put off. But, some things can, they really can.
So have you EVER tried an indoor rock climbing gym?
I had done this about 3 years ago but never made it back BC well, we don’t have one locally. I took 2/3 of my kids one day, and man we had a blast.
Anyway…It was time for a trip back and April has been super stressful for me, so I needed a girls night and a stress reliever, so Indoor Rock Climbing and Girl time was the answer. Still not convinced?
Know before you go, What To Expect:
I called ahead to let them know that I was bringing a group of friends that had never been before. You certainly don’t have to call ahead, but I didn’t want any hiccups in our night.
Cost: $21 (typical without membership)
We happened to go on ladies night, which was half off. The usual price is $21 So it was $10.50 each. This gym does have membership packages and such, so that is an option if you are local(ish) and want to do this more often.
Perfect for: Girls night, couple time, family time, stress reliever, pushing limits, learning something new. Kids, Adults, families, singles. This is definitely a place where anyone is welcome.
I couldn’t find anything on kid age restrictions. If I had a younger child I would suggest calling ahead and asking. Kids need to weigh at-least 30 lbs for the auto belay. Kids 14 and younger must have an adult with them.
What else:
- You will need to sign a waiver before climbing.
- If it is your first time you will go through an orientation (this will teach you everything you need to know to start climbing). * okay so side note on the orientation, it was kinda scary…we were all listening VERY intently because they are teaching you how to clip in, belay and auto belay, boulder (which includes how to fall).
- They will provide you with harness, and climbing shoes.
Adventure Level: Beginner and up.
There are many different options on what you could do, and we saw some very strong people, climbing walls freely (bouldering), that honestly, I have NO idea how they were able to do it…practice maybe? Finger strength? Definitely upper body strength.
But seriously, anyone can do this!
Oh and the gym also has fitness and yoga as well as a TON of options from camps, competitions, leagues, ect…
Worth the trip? Um YES!
Check out the video of our experience here:
Links: While there are other gyms out there of course depending on your location, we are in Dallas , So we went to Summit , below is a link with all the info. They have gyms throughout the DFW Metroplex and one in Oklahoma.
